Pixel Art Scaler

Use the pixel art scaler to enlarge sprites at a clear integer scale. Compare the original and output pixels before downloading a transparent PNG. Choose two, three, four or eight times the source size, inspect the actual generated image, and keep every deliberate edge without smoothing or invented detail.

PNG, JPEG or WebP. Transparency stays intact.

How to Use the Pixel Art Scaler

Open a PNG, JPEG or WebP image from your device. The pixel art scaler checks the raster file signature and waits for the browser to decode its contents. For sprites with transparency, start from PNG or WebP containing alpha. JPEG can be enlarged, but it cannot supply transparency that was never stored. Animated PNG and WebP inputs are captured as one still image.

Choose an integer multiplier. The pixel art scaler supports two, three, four and eight times the input dimensions, subject to its canvas budget. A sixteen-by-sixteen sprite becomes sixty-four by sixty-four at four times scale. Both source and result dimensions are displayed, so the file size in pixels is explicit before download.

Compare the two viewports. The pixel art scaler generates a real output canvas rather than enlarging only an HTML preview. Nearest-neighbor sampling maps each original pixel to a square block of output pixels. The comparison keeps the original image available while you inspect corners, transparent borders and one-pixel features in the result.

Turn on the grid to inspect source-pixel boundaries, or switch to actual size for a one-image-pixel-per-CSS-pixel view with local scrolling. When the result looks correct, download PNG. The pixel art scaler exports the current generated result; changing the multiplier rebuilds it before the download action becomes available again.

Pixel Art Scaler Settings and Dimensions

Integer scaling keeps source pixel boundaries aligned with the output grid. At three times size, every source pixel becomes a three-by-three square. The pixel art scaler disables image smoothing while drawing the output canvas. This avoids the blended intermediate colors that a browser or image editor may otherwise introduce during enlargement.

Choose a multiplier based on delivery dimensions rather than a vague preference for larger files. The pixel art scaler cannot add new poses, texture detail or smoother curves. Eight times enlargement may be useful for a presentation, while two times may be sufficient for a game asset. Keep the untouched original as your editable source.

The pixel art scaler allows up to 8192 pixels per side and sixteen megapixels in one image. An unavailable multiplier is disabled because its output would exceed that budget. If you selected a large multiplier before opening a larger source, choose a smaller enabled value after the size warning. Files above 100 MiB are rejected.

The pixel art scaler grid marks enlarged source pixels, so one grid cell can contain several output pixels. Actual Size changes viewport inspection, not the downloaded dimensions. Large output can scroll inside its own panel. Your device pixel ratio and display zoom can affect physical screen appearance even when the image is shown at CSS pixel size.

When a Pixel Art Scaler Helps

Use a pixel art scaler for game sprites, tiles, icons and carefully authored low-resolution illustrations. A sharp enlargement makes assets easier to present in a tutorial, compare in a design review or place into a layout that expects larger raster dimensions. Deliberate stair-step outlines remain visible rather than being softened by interpolation.

A pixel art scaler can enlarge an entire sprite sheet, but the sheet remains one image. Its cell width, cell height, spacing and padding all grow by the same multiplier. Update the destination engine configuration accordingly. Existing JSON or XML coordinates do not update automatically, because this page exports only the PNG pixels.

Pair the pixel art scaler with the maker when you want to pack separate sprites after resizing, or the animator when you want to inspect a resized grid in motion. The size guide explains texture dimensions and cell measurements. Decide whether your engine can scale at runtime before increasing every asset in your project.

Pixel Art Scaler Output and Transparency

The pixel art scaler exports PNG, regardless of whether the input was PNG, JPEG or WebP. The output contains the scaled image itself rather than a screenshot of the comparison panels. The checkerboard and inspection grid are not included. Transparent pixels remain transparent when the source supplied alpha values.

This pixel art scaler uses nearest-neighbor sampling. It does not use AI, repaint outlines, reduce noise or invent missing features. Existing JPEG artifacts, stray pixels and palette mistakes are enlarged together with the intended drawing. Edit those issues in the original artwork if you need a cleaner result instead of a faithful enlargement.

Ordinary pixel art scaler processing stays in your browser tab and requires no login or payment. The file is read locally and drawn into a temporary canvas. Replacing the source releases the previous image URL, and leaving the page clears temporary resources. Download the result before closing because this workspace is not permanent storage.

Pixel Art Scaler Troubleshooting

If a pixel art scaler result looks blurry in another application, inspect that application’s display settings. An editor may smoothly fit a sharp PNG into a non-integer preview area. Open it at one hundred percent or another integer zoom. Confirm that its actual dimensions match the multiplier shown here before judging the exported file.

If the pixel art scaler rejects a multiplier, reduce it or use a smaller source. Canvas size and memory limits depend on the browser and device, so a job below the protection ceiling can still fail. The error should remain visible; a failed canvas export must not be presented as a successful download.

If transparency looks wrong, compare the original on a contrasting background. The pixel art scaler preserves existing alpha rather than removing a white matte. Downscaling and arbitrary percentage resizing are not provided here: removing pixels can erase narrow features, while non-integer enlargement produces uneven block widths. Return to your original editor for those separate tasks.

Questions before you export

How does the pixel art scaler avoid blur?

It disables canvas smoothing and uses nearest-neighbor enlargement at an integer multiplier. Each source pixel becomes a consistently sized square of pixels. The downloaded file is genuinely larger, rather than depending on CSS display scaling. Inspect the result at actual size to separate file pixels from a fitted preview.

Can the pixel art scaler preserve transparency?

Yes. PNG and WebP sources with alpha retain their transparency in PNG output. The checkerboard is only an inspection background. If the original has a solid white or black background, it stays solid; this tool does not segment subjects or automatically remove a matte around the drawing.

Does the pixel art scaler use AI?

No. It repeats existing pixel information using nearest-neighbor sampling. There is no generative reconstruction, denoising or detail enhancement. That predictable behavior is useful when pixel placement and a restricted palette are intentional. For new artwork or substantive editing, use a separate authoring workflow and review its results carefully.

Which scale factor should I choose?

Choose a pixel art scaler multiplier from the required final dimensions. Multiply both source dimensions by two, three, four or eight and choose a result that fits your delivery. A thirty-two-pixel sprite becomes 128 pixels wide at four times scale. Larger output increases storage and texture memory without increasing the original drawing’s detail.

Can I resize an entire sprite sheet?

Yes. The pixel art scaler resizes it as a single raster image. All cells, outer margins and gutters are multiplied together. Update grid measurements and any external atlas metadata yourself. This page does not parse or rewrite animation data. Test the enlarged image in the animator or your engine before replacing the production asset.

Why does downscaling remove details?

Shrinking an image gives several source pixels fewer destination pixels, so some distinctions must be discarded or blended. A one-pixel highlight may disappear altogether. This tool provides integer enlargement only. Discussing downscaling explains the tradeoff; it does not mean a reduction control or fractional multiplier is available here.

What image size can my browser handle?

The tool caps each image at sixteen megapixels and each side at 8192 pixels, but available device memory can impose a lower practical limit. The selected multiplier must also fit those boundaries. Close heavy tabs or try a smaller source if an otherwise valid job cannot allocate its canvas.

Can I preview the result before downloading?

Yes. The pixel art scaler shows original and generated output in separate viewports with dimensions. Toggle the source-pixel grid for edge inspection and Actual Size for local scrolling at one CSS pixel per image pixel. The download action stays unavailable while a new result is being generated or after a generation failure.
